Journey your way through some of America’s most historic cities by train on a wintry East Coast city hop taking in Boston, NYC, Washington and Philadelphia - includes flights and Amtrak train travel

Boston

Your journey begins in the heart of historic Boston, a charming city awash with cobblestoned streets, leafy parks and age-old monuments. With such a storied past, you’ll feel enveloped in history at every twist and turn - whether strolling along the museum-dotted Freedom Trail, admiring the vast collections at the Museum of Fine Arts or taking a trip to the hallowed halls of nearby Harvard. While history is its calling card, the city is just as famous for its food, so be sure to tuck into steaming bowls of clam chowder, tangy baked beans, fluffy cream pies and buttery lobster rolls to fuel you up after a day of snowy sightseeing. If you’re a sports fan, join the crowds of locals cheering on Baseball team The Red Sox at the iconic Fenway Park.

New York

Next, you’ll trade the storied streets of Boston for the skyscraping scenes of NYC. After arriving into Penn Station by train, you’ll have the glitz and glamour of this iconic city right at your fingertips. Winter time in NYC is pure magic and you’re sure to fall instantly under its spell. Shop till you drop on Fifth Avenue, watch theatre pros tread the boards on Broadway, see the city twinkle below from the dizzy heights of the Empire State Building or wander along the tree-lined thoroughfares of Central Park, taking a detour to Chelsea Market for a quick bite to eat. If you fancy venturing further afield, take a stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge to explore the hip neighbourhoods of Williamsburg, Bushwick or Dumbo where coffee shops, independent boutiques and buzzy bars reign supreme.

Washington

Hop back on the train and find yourself at your next destination, Washington DC. The nation’s capital is best known for its history, heritage and political prowess, with a host of world famous buildings and iconic monuments lining its streets - from The White House and Capitol Hill to the National Mall on the banks of the sparkling Potomac. You’ll also find a wealth of museums to explore here too, from the National Air and Space Museum to the Smithsonian and National Museum of African Art. DC doesn’t do winter by halves with ice skating, Christmas markets and enchanting light displays illuminating the city through the colder months. Come spring, the city’s iconic Cherry Blossoms burst into life, painting its streets in kaleidoscopic shades of pink.

Philadelphia

The final stop on your tour is Philadelphia. As the largest city in the state of Pennsylvania and America’s very first capital, it’s a patchwork of lauded landmarks, bustling markets, sights of historic importance and, in winter, more Christmas attractions than you can shake a candy cane at. Learn about America’s humble beginnings at Independence Hall, Declaration House and Congress Hall, visit the symbolic Liberty Bell or make like Rocky and run up the stairs of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, two at a time.

When you’re ready to come back to the present day, you’ll find a host of modern attractions to sink your teeth into (quite literally). Eat your way around Reading Terminal Market (Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches are basically mandatory here) or see where mobster Al Capone spend some of his years in captivity at the Eastern State Penitentiary. In the lead up to the festive period, the city comes alive with twinkling lights and a line-up of fun-filled Christmas attractions. Take a spin around the ice-skating rink at City Hall, see the spectacular Macy’s Christmas Light Show or visit the charmingly festive Wintergarden.
