Escape to the enigmatic country of Colombia on this action-packed adventure, with stops in Bogotá, the coffee region surrounding Armenia and beautiful Medellín – includes all travel, excursions and more

Days 1-3: Bogotá

Cradled by chilly Andean peaks and dripping with colonial architecture, Bogotá is the perfect introduction to vibrant Colombia. You'll first settle into your hotel and venture out into the city’s nightlife. On day two, you’ll get to know this iconic city with an action-packed panoramic tour. Discover Narino’s House, home to the current government, and soak up the grandeur of Santa Clara’s Church Museum. People-watch in Plaza Bolívar, home to majestic buildings such as the Palace of San Carlos, the Cathedral and the Lievano Palace. Finish with a visit to the Gold Museum to admire ancient pieces of Pre-Colombian goldsmiths. The next day, you’ll visit the Salt Cathedral, an impressive salt chapel considered the first wonder of Colombia. After, you’ll have an afternoon at leisure. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 4: Armenia

Fly to Armenia, a charming city surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Andes and home to unique architecture and lively plazas. You’ll partake in an interactive coffee tour here, to get you fevered for tomorrow’s coffee tours. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 5: Cocora Valley & Salento

A thoroughly action-packed day is in store: first up is the natural beauty of Cocora Valley, known for its biodiversity and moody mist-filled forest. You’ll make your way through the verdant flora and fauna on the way to the world’s tallest wax palm tree, where you’ll enjoy watching a planting ritual. It’s then on to an authentic lunch prepared with local food, before making way to Salento for a walking tour of its colonial architecture, craft workshop and mesmerising landscapes from a viewpoint. (Meals: breakfast, lunch)

Days 6 & 7: Medellín

Flying from Pereira airport, your adventure continues to Medellín, otherwise known as the ‘City of Eternal Spring’. You’ll check into bh Poblado for three nights. On your second day here, you’ll embark on a full-day tour of Colombia’s second city, taking in such sights as Nutibara Hill, the Botanical Gardens and De los Deseos square. You’ll also have time to explore Comuna 13, a historically important neighbourhood where social reformation has transformed the area from one of violence to one of hope - look out for the powerful graffiti created as part of this shift. (Meals: breakfast, one lunch)

Day 8: El Peñol

Leave the bright lights of Medellín behind for a short while as you head west and see some of the villages in the area. Your first stop is Marinilla, a picture-perfect village with plenty of colonial architecture and religious traditions, followed by New Peñol. Your trip will be characterised by breathtaking landscapes and balmy weather, as well as a stop at the water dam (which was built after Old Peñol was flooded). A traditional lunch awaits in colourful Guatapé before you head back to Medellín for the night. (Meals: breakfast, lunch)

Days 9-12: Cartagena

Three splendid nights are to be enjoyed in Cartagena, a true jewel in Colombia’s crown. With a UNESCO-listed Old Town, numerous cobbled stone streets and bougainvillea-covered buildings, you’ll certainly have enough to admire during your stay here. On your first full day here, you’ll take a private half-day walking tour of the city, navigating the stunning 16th-century buildings and learning about the area’s history along the way. Top spots on the tour include San Felipe’s Castle, San Pedro’s Church and the Emerald Museum. In the afternoon, explore the area at your own pace. Your final full day brings with it the option of visiting Rosario’s Island (chargeable) - the laid-back idylls of island life for the day may make a great contrast to the city. After your last night, you’ll be transferred to the airport and fly back to the UK. (Meals: breakfast)
