Venture through Vietnam in style with luxurious hotel stays in four cities, plus a phenomenal cruise across UNESCO-listed Lan Ha Bay, Ha Long’s quieter sister - includes all travel, optional Premium economy flights and a rooftop drink in Saigon

Hanoi

Vietnam’s capital has a beautiful combination of greenery and industrialism, which both sit alongside yet more Colonial architecture, temples, pagodas and unique museums. The Temple of Literature, built in 1070, is a stunning testament to Confucianism, and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is a beautiful memorial to Vietnamese revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh, the namesake of renamed Saigon. If you’re interested in something a little more scenic, you don’t have to go far - the Temple of the Jade Mountain and Turtle Tower sit on a lake right in the middle of the city, while the Tran Quoc Pagoda perches on its own island on the shore of West Lake.

Lan Ha Bay

Before your third night in Hanoi, you’ll spend a night sailing on a luxurious cruise. Staying in an exceptionally smart cabin with a private balcony, you’ll spend two days on emerald-green waters, passing the jagged limestone islands and dramatic caves of Lan Ha Bay alongside the floating villages. Swim and kayak, splash about on a bamboo boat, have a go at Tai Chi, and enjoy gourmet Vietnamese dining the whole time you’re on board.

Hue

Next, you’ll travel to a hotel set just a stone’s throw from the Perfume River in central Hue. This enigmatic city is another former capital, and its most impressive sight is undoubtedly the forbidden Imperial City, a magnificent royal palace complex which puts Buckingham to shame.

Hoi An

Your second stunning city stop is best known as Vietnam’s most historic city, an amalgamation of influences thanks to its role as one of the country’s most prolific ports for many years. Architectural feats at their most fascinating here and include the ornate 18th-century Japanese Bridge, the opulent Phuc Kien Assembly Hall, built by Chinese traders in the 1600s, and the Old Town, where twinkling lights and lanterns hang from colourful, years-worn houses. There’s also more than a few beaches, so you’re fully set to flop after all your sightseeing.

Ho Chi Minh City

Vietnam’s former capital is a sprawling, frenetic metropolis full of life and light and, of course, mopeds. Though crossing the road might be the biggest and scariest adventure you have here, there’s a lot to see in the city and its surrounding districts. Go perusing in Ben Thanh Market (though you’ll find cheaper prices at An Đông), check out the French colonial architecture, from the Post Office to the Notre Dame Cathedral, or find your zen in one of the city’s beautiful pagodas. The best thing you can do to experience the city like a local is hop on the back of a moped and speed around the streets, stopping off at a local coffee shop for a classic cà phê đá or a streetside stall for some Bánh xèo.
