Embark on a legendary China trip with bucket-list excursions, from the Great Wall and Terracotta Army to a visit with the giant pandas of Chengdu – includes all travel, excursions and some meals

Days 1-4: Shanghai

Set off from your UK departure airport to China, spending a night on board before you arrive in electric Shanghai. On arrival you’ll transfer to the hotel and have time to settle in, spending the rest of the day exploring at your leisure. The following morning you’ll take a walking tour to Nanjing Road and the Bund, visiting a silk factory before heading into the bustling Old City Bazaar. Perhaps opt for a half-day city tour (£62 per person) in the afternoon, to discover even more and, in the evening, you might want to join a Huangpu River Cruise with dinner (£51 per person).

On your last full day in Shanghai, there are plenty of things to do, from shopping to sampling street food. In the evening, catch an acrobatic show with dinner (£41 per person). After breakfast the next morning you’ll check out and move on to Beijing, China’s enormous capital. (Meals: breakfast)

Days 5-8: Beijing

Arrive in Beijing ready and raring to explore after experiencing your first bullet train journey from Shanghai. Spend the afternoon at leisure, and in the evening you can opt to feast on a Peking Duck during a Beijing food tour (£36 per person. The next morning, take a tour to the Temple of Heaven, where you can witness locals practising Tai Chi in the tranquil surroundings. Visit a local pearl factory one morning, then explore the city at your own pace in the afternoon. Alternatively, opt to take an optional excursion to Hutong and/or an optional Kung Fu Show and dinner (both £51 per person).

On your second full day in Beijing, you'll also tick a visit to the Great Wall of China off your bucket list, visiting the best-preserved section of the wall, before heading to Jade and Chinese Medicine factories and the Olympic Park, with the beautiful Bird's Nest Stadium and the Water Cube Aquatics Centre. Spend the evening over an optional Golden Mask Show (£51 per person). On your final full day in China's capital, you could take an optional excursion to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City (£112 per person). (Meals: breakfast)

Days 9 & 10: Xi'an

Taking the bullet train to Xi'an, you'll check in to your hotel before visiting the Muslim Quarter. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, with the option to witness a Tang Dynasty Show with dinner (£46 per person). The next day, the Terracotta Warriors Museum awaits, as well as a local terracotta factory and the Yanyuan Art Museum, where you can learn about Chinese calligraphy (and maybe even have a go yourself). In the evening, join an optional Old City Wall and Wild Goose Pagoda Tour (£26 per person). (Meals: breakfast)

Days 11, 12 & 13: Chengdu

After another bullet train to Chengdu, you'll head to Panda Base - home to the iconic and elusive giant pandas. Then, head to the Panda Museum to learn about these endangered animals. Next, visit the Shu Embroidery Museum before transferring to your hotel to check in. In the evening, you've the option to go to a Sichuan Opera Show (£36 per person). The following days are yours to spend as you wish, with the option to join a couple of excursions: to Huanglongxi Ancient Town & Leshan Big Buddha (£102 per person) and to Dujiangyan and the Sichuan Cuisine Museum (£123 per person). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 14: Chengdu - UK

After a final breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK. (Meals: breakfast)
