Admire Egypt’s iconic pyramids from a Nile-side Cairo base, then cruise along the river to visit unbelievable historic sights - includes a full-board cruise, excursions and all travel

Day 1: UK - Cairo

Fly from the UK to Cairo, Egypt’s chaotic yet captivating capital. You’ll touch down and transfer to your hotel overlooking the Nile. Spend the rest of your day at leisure, starting to explore, then opt to attend a Pyramids sound and light show in the evening (£45 per person). (Meals: none)

Day 2: Cairo

Today you’ll get to know the city, starting it off with a bang at the Great Pyramids, Egypt’s World Wonder and one of the world’s most famous ancient sights. Walk in the footsteps of the pharaohs with your guide, then visit the Great Sphinx and Temple of the Valley before getting your fill of history at the Egyptian Museum. End the day with a walk through the bustling Khan el Khalili neighbourhood. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 3: Cairo - Aswan

Take a short flight to Aswan this morning, which has been Egypt’s commercial gateway since antiquity. You’ll head down to the river for a cruise on a traditional felucca boat to see the Nile Falls, Granite Quarry and High Dam of Aswan, then transfer to the port to meet your crew and cruise ship, home for the next three nights. Get settled in and watch the goings-on, or opt to visit Philae, an island with a rich history, home to the Temple of Isis (£47 per person). (Meals: full board)

Day 4: Aswan - Kom Ombo

This morning you can opt to visit Abu Simbel, full of temples carved for Rameses II, including the statue of Amon Ra and the Temple of Nefertiti (£100 per person). Later in the day, your boat will sail for Kom Ombo, where you will visit the temples of Haroeris and Sobek, see the Nileometer and visit a museum full of mummified crocodiles. (Meals: full board)

Day 5: Kom Ombo - Edfu - Luxor

Dock in Edfu this morning, where you’ll leave your cruise behind and return to land to ride in a traditional Egyptian carriage to the Temple of Edfu, dedicated to Horus. Visit Luxor, where you’ll visit the Temple of Luxor, an incredible sight constructed by two great pharaohs, Amenhotep II and Rameses II. (Meals: full board)

Day 6: Luxor

Continue your discovery of ancient Thebes with a visit to the iconic Valley of the Kings, where Tutankhamun was discovered in all his glory. After witnessing the wealth of the Pharaohs, visit the Temple of Hatshepsut, before returning to modern-day Luxor and spending the rest of your day at leisure. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 7: Luxor - Cairo

Enjoy breakfast, then set off early to the Karnak Temple Complex, your last experience of ancient Egypt. Afterwards, transfer to the airport for a flight back to Cairo. On arrival, you can explore at leisure or opt to visit the Saladin Citadel, which dates back to the 12th century and is an important site in the country’s Islamic Heritage (£55 per person). (Meals: full board)

Day 8: Cairo - UK

Transfer to the airport for a flight back to the UK. (Meals: breakfast)
